According to a report by Texas Standard, 21 new independent bookstores opened last year, and 13 have opened so far this year. The reason why these bookstores are so popular might be something that you don't expect.
Independent Bookstores as Community Hubs
Independent bookstores are local hubs that offer a sense of community. They cater specifically to the people in the towns they're located in, something that national chains might not be as well-equipped to do.

Some of these bookstores offer more than just books. There are coffee shops, bars, comedy and music nights, and other ways for members of the community to connect. This connection is something that a lot of people started to crave in the wake of 2020.
