Alleys are a constant issue in Amarillo, Texas. People constantly complain about large items and furniture left sitting in the alley. The condition of some alleys is another issue that people bring up. This time, it's the City Marshal, and he says there's a big problem right now with overgrown properties in Amarillo. If you don't mow, there are some big consequences.

Amarillo City Marshal Says Mow Or Face Consequences

When it comes to taking care of your yard in Amarillo, your responsibility goes beyond your front and backyard. It turns out that the part of your yard that connects to the alley is your responsibility as well. If you don't keep it trimmed, there is a price to pay.

If you wind up getting in trouble over the state of your yard, including your portion of the alley, you'll wind up footing the bill for a contractor to come out and take care of it. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the bill won't be a cheap one. In this economy, it makes sense to mow.

What Happens If You Don't Mow Your Yard In Amarillo?

According to a video posted by the City of Amarillo, featuring the City Marshal, it all starts with a complaint. Someone notices the state of your yard and makes a phone call. That phone call then turns into an investigation into the state of your yard.

Next, an assessment is made as to whether or not your yard is breaking any rules. If your yard lands on the naughty list, a notice is left informing you of the 10 days you have to mow your yard. If you ignore that notice, the City will hire some contractors to come take care of that pesky overgrowth for you. They'll also send you the bill, and it isn't cheap.

When you look on social media at the post regarding the overgrown yards, the comment section is fascinating. People are quick to point out a lot of areas around Amarillo that are overgrown, and they aren't referring to people's yards. There are a lot of areas around town that need attention. Still, if you don't mow your yard you will face the consequences; it doesn't matter what other parts of town are overgrown.

Ranchotel: The Forgotten Landmark of Old Route 66 in Amarillo, Texas

The Ranchotel, located at 2501 W. 6th St., is a product of Route 66's heyday.

When Americans first began long-distance automotive travel, they typically stayed in hotels or camped beside the road. In response, clever entrepreneurs began to build what were called tourist courts. The Ranchotel is one of these.

It was built in 1940 and until recently, it was considered one of the best preserved examples of Route 66's tourist facilities. It was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 and was well maintained until 2020.

Even now, in spite of the building's fading beauty, there is still the nostalgic air held by many a historic landmark.
