The mosquitos in Amarillo have been horrible this year. It seems like everywhere I've gone, I've had to fight the tiny winged bloodsuckers more than enjoy the time I spend outdoors. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there will be any relief from those pesky mosquitos any time soon.

When Will Mosquito Season End In Amarillo, Texas?

It seems like my family has been nursing mosquito bites forever. It's been a long summer of people sitting around scratching and screaming. Amarillo Parks and Recreation recently shared some rather upsetting information on social media. Apparently, we're still not out of mosquito season yet.

According to them, mosquito season in Amarillo normally lasts through November. We're only at the start of October. That means two more months of this crap.

That means if you plan on playing some football out in the yard with family over Thanksgiving, you might spend time aggressively slapping yourself and muttering obscenities under your breath. Can't wait.

What To Do About The Mosquitos In Amarillo

If you're one of those who don't want to only exist indoors, there are a few things you can do to try and survive the next couple of months. Other than staying inside, you can:

  • Wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors ( in this heat?!).
  • Get rid of standing water. It's where they breed.
  • Load up on repellant

One thing we use is those massive sticks of mosquito-deterring incense. They actually do a pretty good job of keeping the mosquitos away. There are also candles you can get for your patio that repel mosquitos.

However you choose to fight off the mosquito hordes, just know you have almost two full months of dealing with them before we get a little relief.
