Want to Live in Palo Duro Canyon This Winter? Here’s How
If you're looking for a change of pace and for something unique to do in the Texas Panhandle, there's an opportunity available right now that you might be interested in. It involves Palo Duro Canyon.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park recently announced they have an opening for a winter campground host. If you love being in the great outdoors, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.
Duties of a Campground Host
A campground host's responsibilities are pretty straightforward. Your job is to make sure camping areas are clean and that guests are taken care of.
You'll do things like clean the restrooms, tidy up the camp sites, and be available for any questions or concerns that campers might have. In return, you have a spot furnished for your RV, and you get to soak up all that the canyon has to offer.

On a recent road trip from Amarillo to Washington state, I stayed exclusively at state park campgrounds. I met a lot of campground hosts on my trip.
Why It’s Worth It
One of them spent some time chatting with me over breakfast about what life is like as a campground host. He talked about all of the new friends he made and how rewarding the work was.
The work wasn't overly stressful, and every day he got to wake up to the most incredible sunrises he'd ever seen. He spent a lot of time hiking and swimming in a nearby lake.
