Sometimes when I am delivering food in Amarillo, I just have to scratch my head and wonder what you want me to do? I mean, you pick up food, drive it to the location, and drop it off. In theory, that is the whole job.

You want something delivered, and I do it. End of transaction. You pay for the service, and I collect payment for my work. It's really that simple. Yes, I know sometimes there are hiccups.

The wait time for the food can be long. It can be an endless season of construction, like it seems to be right now. Sometimes you do the best that you can.

The Fear of Oversized Hardware Store Orders

Recently, I had to pick up from Home Depot. I always worry when I have to go there because I have seen horror stories of someone needing to pick up a door. I have even seen high quantities of garden pavers.

My car is on the smaller side, so picking up a door or a pallet of garden pavers is out of the question. When I accepted this Home Depot order and initially saw 'ceiling fan,' I braced myself, but realizing it was just a ceiling fan light switch was a huge relief.

Porch Etiquette: Respecting Outward-Swinging Doors

That, in my book, was a win. It was a small item in a brown Home Depot bag. When I got to the drop-off location, I walked up to the door and placed the bag in front of the outside wall.

The Camouflage Effect: Brown Bags and Brick Walls

The screen door opened outward, so I deliberately placed the order to the side so it wouldn't get trapped or knocked over. Even with a small bag, being respectful of the customer's property is just part of the job. When I got to my car and confirmed, I got the message that the photo wouldn't work.

When AI Bots Fail the Common Sense Test

The AI bots couldn't clearly see the bag. Again, Home Depot has a brown bag, and in front of a brown bricked house, I can see where that is an issue. If it were a human checking the delivery, they could zoom in and see the bag.

It's not like having a brown house is unusual. That lack of contrast, a brown delivery bag blending into a brown brick exterior, triggers the app to reject the drop-off photo, unnecessarily wasting a driver's time.

So in that situation, you have to walk back to the door and take another photo. That can be very time-consuming if it is an apartment or something like that. I like to get my steps in when working, but I don't want to waste my time.

At the end of the day, you're left scratching your head trying to outsmart an algorithm. The AI isn't nearly as smart as it thinks it is
