[Warning] Amarillo’s Latest Scam Uses Your Kids as Bait
Nothing could be worse than scammers in Amarillo or anywhere really. It just seems so horrible to try to steal the hard-earned money from anyone. There are so many targets out there. First, it was the elderly. They are still targeted but the scammers have moved on. So there has to be warnings to let us know about new scams in the area.
Unfortunately, it seems as soon as we are warned about one scam another one pops up. The goal is always to scare the person on the other end of the phone so they don't have time to think.
I mean there is no way anyone not in panic mode would fall for a scam that warrants you buying a bunch of gift cards. I mean that seems ridiculous. It happens though and people fall for scams all of the time, unfortunately.
The latest scam involves scaring parents into helping their children out. I mean if they are in trouble it's kind of in our job description to help. So that is why parents have become the target. This is not new but the fact that the Potter County Sheriff's Office has come out to warn us means it is happening here.
If you get a call like this it's always the best idea to get all of the information that you can but don't act on it. Hang up and call officials to verify. That is what a lot of scammers do not anticipate you doing,
That one phone call can save you a lot of money. More importantly, one phone call can verify that your child is safe and not in any kind of trouble, which of course is the most important information you could possibly have at this moment.
