Something that seems to be a big thing for others when you say you're from Amarillo is the classic song by George Strait, "Amarillo By Morning".

I swear, 90% of the time I say that's where we live, someone brings that song up. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, and sure, by its namesake, it's something we can hang our hat on.

I saw a great conversation on Reddit recently, and the original poster asked,

"Do y'all feel a sense of pride and well-being when y'all hear Amarillo By Morning?"

It was actually a great question, and many apparently felt the same, as the answers just began to pour in.

One user brought up a story about a Garth Brooks concert they went to, and someone yelled out to play some George Strait. Then another person screamed out for Amarillo By Morning. The user said then then hollered they were from Amarillo...and that's when Garth decided to play it.

However, the underlying tone of the majority of the comments were that they didn't exactly feel a sense of pride about the song.

What Is "Amarillo By Morning" About

Because of its title, many people believe the song is about Amarillo itself. Well, that's actually not the case. The song is titled after Amarillo, but it doesn't necessarily have a whole lot to do with the city.

The song is more about passing through Amarillo than it is about the city itself. He even mentions being from San Antonio in the song with the line, "Up from San Antone" right there in the beginning of the song.

Is There A Song Amarillo Is Proud Of

Well, there's quite a few songs that mention Amarillo or some of the landmarks found here, so we get more love in songs than most think.

However, is there a certain song that Amarillo residents and natives latch onto as theirs? I wouldn't necessarily say there is.

Look at How Amarillo's Old Route 66 Motels Looked Then & Now

The heyday of the Mother Road may be long gone, but would you believe that there's still plenty of the old motels where many a weary American family rested their heads during their interstate travels?

You won't believe some of these are still standing, much less still alive and (wait for it..) kickin'!
