In Amarillo, it feels like you’ll find a coffee shop, church, or convenience store on just about every corner. Another thing you will find everywhere is a cell phone store.
Former Party City Building in Amarillo Getting New Tenant
Amarillo has no shortage of cell phone stores, but now a familiar name is moving into a very familiar building.
T-Mobile Plans New Amarillo Store on I-40
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the former Party City building located at 8511 I-40 is becoming home to a T-Mobile store.
Inside the Renovation Plans for Amarillo I-40 Location
Changes to the building include new interior partitions and doors, updated finishes, fixtures, furniture, and equipment. The renovation also includes ceilings and lighting, along with plumbing, electrical, and mechanical upgrades. New egress and fire safety equipment will also be added. The cost is estimated at $558,960.
Construction is expected to begin in September 2027 and be finished by December 2027.
What Happened to Party City and Pier 1 in Amarillo
This building is no stranger to national companies. Back in December 2024, Party City announced that it was closing all its stores, and that included the one in Amarillo. This came as a shock, especially since Party City had only recently moved into the I-40 location from Bell Street

Pier 1 was the tenant before Party City, and they closed in 2020, right before COVID, after the company decided to close all of its stores.

What This New Amarillo T-Mobile Store Could Mean
Amarillo currently has four T-Mobile stores, including one on Westgate Parkway that sits just across the street from this new location. Could that store relocate to the former Party City building? As of now, the exact plans haven’t been confirmed.
